A few days ago, I spent the afternoon with a new real estate client — a brilliant, accomplished woman who has spent the last 30 years building her company from the ground up.
We toured million-dollar condos in uptown Charlotte, then sat down in a beautiful fine-dining restaurant to decompress.
But throughout our conversation, one question kept echoing in my mind:
What is success, if we don’t have the capacity to feel it?
She told me over and over, “I’m just so busy. I can’t take a breath. I can’t slow down.”
And at one point, she reached into her purse — not for lipstick, but for her adrenal pills.
Hashimoto’s support.
Adrenal support.
Stress support.
Sleep support.
All the supplements women take when their nervous systems have forgotten what rest feels like.
So I gently asked her:
“If you’re the one in charge… why won’t you let yourself rest?”
She’s stepping down in January.
She’s handed the reins over.
She could breathe — but she doesn’t know how.
Because her identity is woven into hustling.
Into being the strong one.
Into carrying the weight of everything until her body finally whispers stop.
And it made me think of all the women I know — how many of us live this story in quieter, subtler ways.
So I want to ask you, too:
What “have-to-dos” are you carrying right now that your soul is begging you to put down?
Where are you pushing through instead of receiving the softness this season is offering you?
Is there one small thing you can release… so you can actually feel the joy of this time of year instead of sprinting past it?
Because here’s the truth:
Most women don’t burn out from doing too much.
They burn out because they don’t know how to rest.
A Soft Reminder for Your Body
Recently, I hosted a cozy, candle-lit evening circle for women — a gentle space where we could slow down long enough to hear ourselves again.
And something tender happened:
The moment women gave themselves permission to pause…
their shoulders softened.
Their breathing deepened.
Their eyes became a little brighter.
It reminded me of this:
Rest is not a reward.
Rest is your birthright.
So here is your invitation today — no event, no schedule, no pressure:
Take one soft moment for yourself.
Light a candle.
Sip your tea slowly.
Breathe in a way that lets your body know, “You’re allowed to rest.”
You don’t have to earn your pause.
You only have to receive it.
